Chuck Close's work is interesting. I read this interview with him in Guernica http://www.guernicamag.com/interviews/1852/close_7_1_10/
http://www.bhag.net/int/intclosc/intclosc_find03.html I have started a new project and I want to focus on portraiture. I am interested in finding out the extent a face can be distorted before it becomes unrecognisable as the person. I was have been noticing my relationship to a portrait as I am making it. During the entire construction of the piece I do not recognise how I captured likeness of the person, I believe it is because I am too engaged with the piece to view it objectively. The time it takes to distance myself from the portrait is relative to the amount of time spent on it, sometimes the next morning, sometimes the next year.
